"Drishyam" Blockbuster run continues @ UK box office
After breaking all kinds of collection records at Kerala box office, "Drishyam" blockbuster run continues at overseas as well. From the latest reports the movie has grossed over Rs. 1 crore from UK region and other worldwide markets are also set the cash registers ringing. It is also reported that film achieved the status of first from Malayalam cinema in the USA to cross 1 crore mark.
Box office trade pundit Taran Adarsh wrote on social networking site Twitter - "Malayalam film #Drishyam crosses Rs 1 cr mark in UK. Total till Sunday: £ 98,523 [Rs 1.01 cr]. Excellent... Source: Rentrak,". The movie was released on
last years December month and from there on movie went to set on the new heights for Malayalam film industry.
"Drishyam" remake rights are hot around Indian cinema, where Tamil remake will feature Kamal Hassan in lead and Jeethu Joseph again steer the direction for this remake. As per the reports, Bollywood remake of this thriller Malayalam movie is in doubts, which is supposed to be produced by Indian Television queen Ekta Kapoor.
The reason seems to be that production house have reportedly bought the rights of book 'The devotion of Suspect X', which is being written by Japanese author Keigo Higashino. Ekta Kapoor and team are approaching cautiously on this remake as there were reports that "Drishyam" has a kind of similar plot with this book.
However on Plagiarism issue, director and scenarist Jeethu Joseph told in a interview that 'Drishyam is not inspired from any foreign film or book'.He also states 'he has yet to watch that Japanese movie based on the above said book.
