Review : "Iyobinte Pusthakam"
Truly a visual amazement and captivating experience by the filmmaker, who right from his inception chose the different path to give new dimension to Malayalam cinema. From limited resources, Amal Neerad unleashed a real magnum opus titled "Iyobinte Pusthakam". Well what to say, loads of performances are adduced, which showed perspicacity of crew associated behind this movie. Don't miss this one.....
It is the story of Iyob (Lal) and his three sons Dimitri (Chemban Vinod Jose),
Ivan (Jinu Joseph) and Aloshy (Fahadh Faasil). Sets in the backdrop of colonial era in India around 1900 and spans over decade till the imposition of Emergency in 1975.
Munnar in the pre-independence period, where Iyob become seigneur of tea estate after the death of British planter Harrison (Sal Yusuf). Iyob takes possession of Harrison's power by dethroning mistress Kazhali (Lena). Iyob's wife Annamma (Reenu Mathews) holds a soft corner for Kazhali.
Dimitri and Ivan had got all the characteristics of their father, while Aloshy was bit different from them. After his mother's death, Aloshy witnessed a gruelling incident carried out by his brothers, which led him to run away from home.
Now things take a drastic change when Aloshy returns, where his love for Martha (Isha Sharvani) irks Iyob. With the entry of merchant Angoor Ravuther (Jayasurya), things become more intricate for Iyob, which follows the rest of the plot.
The main attraction is Amal Neerad's execution, which is at its peak with top notch visual adaptation from the man himself. Despite of being a historical subject, Gopan Chidambaram and Shyam Pushkaran put on a fabulous narrative story without any glitch.
Another life of this film is technical side, especially work from art director Sabu Mohan and costumes of Sameera Saneesh gave the rich look needed. Praveen Prabhakar's editing, while music, BGM by Neha S Nair and Yakzan Gary Pereira enhanced the touch.
The central character of Iyob was perfect in the hands of Lal, Aloshy again Fahadh Faasil stamped that why he is best among young generation. Pick of the cast was Jayasurya who made the colossal impact with his baddie image. Chemban Vinod and Padmapriya also made their impression with respective characters.
Lena, Reenu Mathews, Vinayakan, Isha Sharvani, Jinu Joseph, T G Ravi, Amit Chackalakal, Sreejith Ravi, Aashiq Abu and others have also made their presence felt. For the banner of Amal Neerad Productions and Fahadh Faasil & Friends Pvt. Ltd. banner are the producer of this film.
